Custom Shower
Installation
Walk-ins, steam showers, tub surrounds, and decorative tilework — built right from the ground up with proper waterproofing and a 2-year workmanship warranty.
Every Shower Starts With a Solid Foundation
At Rivera's Tile & Stone, we handle every part of the shower installation — from tearing out the old tile to the final grout seal. We don't cut corners on waterproofing or substrate prep because that's what separates a shower that lasts 5 years from one that lasts 30.
Whether you're starting from scratch or retiling an existing space, we'll walk you through material options, layout, and design to make sure the end result is exactly what you had in mind.
What We Can Build For You
From simple retiles to full custom builds — here's what we specialize in.
Walk-In & Curbless Showers
Modern, accessible, and easy to clean. We build zero-threshold walk-in showers with proper floor slopes so water drains correctly every time. Great for aging-in-place or a clean contemporary look.
Steam Showers
Steam showers need near-perfect waterproofing — even a small gap can cause serious moisture damage over time. We use proper vapor barriers and certified membranes to make sure your steam shower stays sealed for the long run.
Tub Surrounds
Tile the walls around your existing bathtub for a clean, waterproof finish. We tile full surrounds — three walls from tub edge to ceiling — with precise cuts around fixtures and consistent grout lines throughout.
Built-In Niches & Shelves
Recessed tile niches cut into the wall give you storage without taking up floor space. We frame, waterproof, and tile niches to match your shower perfectly — single or double, any size.
Large Format Tile
Big slabs, fewer grout lines — a sleek, modern look that's also easier to clean. We specialize in setting large-format porcelain and stone tiles (24"×48" and bigger) plumb and level on shower walls.
Shower Benches & Seating
Built-in tiled shower benches for comfort and function. We build the bench structure, waterproof it, and tile it to match the rest of your shower walls and floor — seamless and built to hold weight.
Our Installation Process
We walk every customer through what to expect before we ever pick up a tool.
Free On-Site Estimate
We come out, look at the space, and talk through your vision. You'll get a detailed written estimate — no vague numbers. We measure everything ourselves so there are no surprises mid-project.
Demo & Removal
We remove the existing shower, tile, and any damaged substrate. We take it down to the studs if needed and assess what's behind the walls before anything goes back up.
Substrate & Waterproofing
Cement board, Schluter KERDI membrane, or RedGard — we use the right system for your shower type. This is the most critical step and we never skip it. A proper waterproof barrier is what keeps your walls and floor dry for decades.
Layout & Tile Setting
We plan the layout before setting a single tile — centering patterns, accounting for cuts at corners, and making sure everything lines up. Tiles are set with the correct thin-set for your material and application.
Grouting & Sealing
Grout lines are consistent and fully filled. We use the right grout type for your tile and joint width. All natural stone and grout gets sealed at the end for long-term protection.
Tile Options We Work With
We work with whatever tile you choose — whether you've already bought it or want help picking something out.
Durable, low-maintenance, and available in almost any size or finish. Our most popular shower tile material.
Affordable and easy to work with. Great for tub surrounds, wall tiles, and budget-conscious projects.
Travertine, marble, slate, and quartzite. Beautiful and unique — requires proper sealing and setting methods.
Glass, stone, or porcelain mosaics for accent walls, niches, and shower floors. Adds texture and style.
24"×24" and larger porcelain slabs for a seamless, modern wall look with minimal grout lines.
Textured mosaic floors and accent strips. Slip-resistant and works great on shower floors and feature walls.
Common Questions
How long does a custom shower installation take?
Most shower installations take 3–6 days depending on size and complexity. Demo and waterproofing happen first, then tile setting (typically 1–2 days), followed by grouting and sealing. We'll give you a specific timeline in your estimate.
Do I need to supply my own tile?
You can, or we can help you source it. We work with several local suppliers and can point you toward options that fit your style and budget. Just let us know at the estimate appointment.
Do you handle the plumbing side of a shower remodel?
We handle the tile work — demo, substrate, waterproofing, and all tile installation. Plumbing rough-in and fixture installation is typically handled by a licensed plumber. We're happy to coordinate with your plumber on the project.
What waterproofing systems do you use?
We use Schluter KERDI membrane, RedGard liquid membrane, and traditional mortar bed pre-slope depending on the project. We'll recommend the right system based on your shower design.
Is there a warranty on the work?
Yes — we back all our work with a 2-year workmanship warranty. If anything we installed has an issue, we'll come back and make it right.
